The Oxford debates are becoming more and more popular in our country. This subtle art of discussion allows you to compete with an opponent presenting the opposite position only by means of the weight of arguments. The Oxford debate aims to demonstrate the rhetorical skills of the participants. An additional goal of the event is to deepen the participants' knowledge of society and law.

The debate is formalised. The event is led by the Marshal, who has the help of the Secretary. They discuss two sides \u2013 proposals (for) and opposition (against), which alternately speak out, presenting their arguments, but also responding to those put forward by the opponent. After the debate, the jury decides which party has better presented its arguments.<\/p>

Participation in the Oxford debate is an excellent way to develop the soft competences that are currently currently desirable in the labour market \u2013 the ability to speak publicly, argue and cooperate with others. The Oxford debate develops a culture of discussion, the need to adapt to the rules, and the limited time to speak forces speakers to prepare well and make concrete statements.<\/p>

The Oxford debate teaches a culture of discussion and develops oratoric skills for young people. For these reasons, the Court Watch Poland Foundation in 2019 continues to organize the \"Oxford Debates Tournament on Social and Legal Topics\" for high school students. The project was awarded the honorary patronage of the President of the Supreme Administrative Court \u2013 Mr Prof. Dr HAB. Marek Zirk-Sadowski.<\/p>

This time it will be a two-stage event. At the turn of March and April in 4 cities (Toru\u0144, Krakow, Poznan, Warsaw) there will be eliminations. They will be attended by 32 schools from all over Poland. The top 2 teams from each region will advance to the final, which will take place on June 8, 2019 in the Supreme Administrative Court.<\/p>

Both the first and second stages will be based on debates in rival groups according to the results of the draw conducted at the beginning of the Tournament.<\/p>

Four teams will be selected at the elimination stage after 3 debates. After the next debate, the top 2 teams will move on to the final stage, which will be held in the Supreme Administrative Court.<\/p>

In the final stage, after 2 debates from each of the 2 groups, 2 teams will advance to the semi-finals. In addition to the two teams winning the semi-finals, 2 teams competing for third place will also qualify for the final. This is to encourage the participants to fight to the very end, but also to appreciate the efforts of those who came to fight against demanding rivals.<\/p>

              Eliminations in the District Court in Toru\u0144, March 16, 2019:<\/b>\n
            1. Autonomous vehicles should not move on public roads.<\/li>\n
            2. Increasing court fees is the best way to prevent actions that are manifestly unfounded or friious.<\/li>\n
            3. Patenting inventions inhibits the development of civilization.<\/li>\n
            4. The participation of judges, as a social factor in the criminal process, should be strengthened.<\/li>\n<\/ol>
                Eliminations at the Regional Administrative Court in Pozna\u0144, March 23, 2019:<\/b>\n
              1. The participation of the social factor in the administration of justice, as referred to in Article 104(1) of the Treaty, is a matter for the European Union. Article 182 of the Constitution is insufficient in Poland.<\/li>\n
              2. The Public Register of Sex Offenders brings more harm than benefits.<\/li>\n
              3. The Criminal Code and the Code of Offences should penalise the use of social media.<\/li>\n
              4. The interests of justice are as important as the interests of the individual.<\/li>\n<\/ol>
                  Eliminations at the Regional Administrative Court in Warsaw, March 30, 2019:<\/b>\n
                1. Investing in renewable energy is a better idea than investing in nuclear energy.<\/li>\n

                    Eliminations at the Court of Appeal in Krakow, April 12, 2019:<\/b>\n
                  1. Copyright leads to social exclusion.<\/li>\n
                  2. Sound should be recorded at all court hearings and meetings.<\/li>\n
                  3. An employment contract should be the only acceptable form of cooperation between economic operators and natural persons who do not carry out an economic activity.<\/li>\n
                  4. Institutions of limitation of criminal record and limitation of the enforcement of a penalty should not apply in criminal law.<\/li>\n<\/ol>
