Its aim was to effectively and permanently activate social control mechanisms in the courts by increasing the participation of citizens in judicial hearings as an audience. This is extremely necessary and unique because it concerns the judiciary, which has so far slipped out of the field of interest in both control and civic education. Efforts have been taken to promote the observation of hearings and courtrooms across the country. The observation questionnaires submitted are used to enrich the judicial database and to produce reports summarising the subsequent monitoring cycles. In addition, as part of the project and the training provided, we tried to familiarize their participants with the basic knowledge of the judicial system and the need to observe hearings, thereby raising their legal awareness. Through joint actions with our partner – the Association of Local Creative Centres – several thousand also had the opportunity to come into contact with this knowledge during cultural festivals for young people. The main one was slot art festival organized annually in Lubż near Wroclaw.

The objectives of the implementation of the actions were to increase the attitudes of citizens towards and control the judicial institutions, to increase the legal awareness of project participants and to increase the integration of justice institutions into society.

The project was aimed at adult youth. It is the group most willing, on the one hand, to engage in citizens' control activities and, on the other hand, to be most at risk of legal exclusion due to lack of experience and financial resources. Nevertheless, other adults, including seniorcitizens, were equally welcome at the training. The project has contributed to increasing the participation of civil society in our country.

Download the report from the Citizens' Court Monitoring
in 2013/2014

Project partner Stand before the court – see for yourself is the Association of Local Creative Centers.

Project Stand trial – see for yourself it is co-financed by Switzerland under the Swiss cooperation programme with the new Member States of the European Union.

As part of the Swiss funds, the Court Watch Poland Foundation carried out from 1 June 2013 to 30 September 2014 the project "Stand trial alone".
