The project was implemented in 18 Polish cities, where the district courts are located and where upper secondary schools, universities and universities of the third century are located. Both young citizens and seniors were involved in the project. They were first equipped by the Court Watch Poland Foundation with the necessary knowledge of the justice system and the fundamental rights and obligations of citizens before the court, during a series of innovative trainings, and then sent to the court for practical acquaintance with the functioning of the institution of the third authority. Their observations were used to enrich the database on the Polish judiciary seen through the eyes of "ordinary" citizens, who are most likely to face Themida. Thanks to this database, the Foundation is able to disseminate knowledge about justice by publishing information brochures. The brochure summarising the project can be downloaded here.

The local dimension was also very important in this project. The joint involvement of different age groups in the observation of local courts from 18 Polish cities will probably result in a dialogue in the future between the court staff and the inhabitants of the local community concerned, who are already able to form their observations, reservations and comments on this extremely important democratic institution in a personal way. The Court Watch Poland Foundation strives to be an intermediary and mediator during this dialogue and to facilitate it by removing barriers and by supporting the communication of citizens who thus gain greater subjectivity. Among other things, thanks to the implementation of such projects.

The project also significantly contributed to the realisation of the right to public participation in public court hearings, which is now largely "dead" in Poland.

Project summary in numbers:

Number of trainings – 50 (planned 50)

Number of trained persons – 1328 (planned 1000)

Number of cities where training was conducted – 18 (planned 15)

Project co-financed by the Operational Programme Citizens' Initiative Fund

The Citizens' Initiative Fund has decided to respond positively to our grant proposal and supported a unique project aimed at involving local communities in order to raise citizens' legal awareness of real and practical ness and thus trust in the third-party institution.
